This article makes a presentation of the different accounts of the creation present in the Ancient Near East (ANE) and then compares them with the creationist account of Genesis 1. It is found that although there are similarities between Gen 1 and the creation accounts of the ANE, the differences between them indicate that there is no dependency, and that the biblical creation reflects a God of love who with care and meditation decides to create the earth and humanity so that they live in communion with him.
