EDITING AND REVIEWING PROCESS

The editorial process of the UNACIENCIA Journal consists of the following phases:

Article reception phase.

Receipt and registration of the request for publication.

Authors will be informed in a timely manner of the submission of the article through the journal's management platform (OJS).

In the first instance, the subject matter, form and relevance of the article will be considered, notifying the author(s) of:

  • Adjustments that are necessary to comply with the editorial policy when these are minor in order to submit the adjusted article for review.
  • The refusal to publish the article because the subject matter is not of interest to the journal or the modifications to the article are too extensive.

The maximum time from receipt of the article until the evaluation is sent to the authors will not exceed 2 months.

Blind peer review phase (double blind evaluation).

Once the review described above has been completed (estimated time 10 calendar days), the articles will be sent to two external evaluators considered experts in the subject matter, chosen on the basis of the following criteria:

  • Have a master's or doctoral degree in the subject area.
  • Have published scientific articles in the area of interest during the last five years.
  • Have an H-index of 5 or higher.
  • Belong to an institutional affiliation other than that of the publishing institution, preferably an international one.
  • No institutional affiliation with the authors of the manuscript.
  • Declare no conflicts of interest with the publishing institution, the journal or any of its members, including editors, authors, editorial and scientific committee members.

The Editor will send to the reviewers the articles to be refereed, as well as the guide to carry out the evaluation, accompanied by the evaluation form to be filled in through the Open Journal System platform (estimated evaluation time 30 days).

It will be taken into account that this evaluation will be double-blind for author(s) and evaluators; that is to say, the evaluators will receive the article without the identity of the authors or any other data referring to them.

The evaluators will carry out their work under criteria of confidentiality and impartiality, following the requirements found in the peer review forms with the specification of criteria for validation of articles defined by the journal Unaciencia. Evaluation form.

These are the possible outcomes of the article evaluation:

  • The article can be published with minor modifications.
  • The article can be published with major modifications.
  • The article cannot be published for the reasons specified in the review.

Situation of controversy: In the event of controversy in the evaluation, either because the evaluators have opposing opinions or because the author disagrees with the opinion, an additional evaluator will be appointed. If the controversy persists, it will be the editor-in-chief who, after carefully analysing the evaluations of the peers assigned to the manuscript, will make the final publication decision with the possible help of the Editorial and Scientific Committee.

Confidentiality: In order to guarantee the impartiality of the evaluation, the name of the author and the evaluators will be kept confidential. In addition, the Adventist University Corporation will observe the principles of good faith and respect for intellectual property.

Regardless of the result of the external evaluators, the Scientific Editorial Committee may include other relevant recommendations to improve the quality of the work. The final decision of acceptance or rejection of the article will always be in the hands of the Scientific Editorial Committee and will be final, although the authors may request a new evaluation in case of doubts or lack of rigour in the peer reviewers' evaluations.

Post-evaluation article revision phase

When the reviewers' opinion is available, it is also sent to the authors without their data, with the notification of the issued concept of publishing without modifications; publishing with minor modifications; publishing with substantial modifications or rejecting its publication. In those cases in which the article is approved with modifications, the author will also receive the suggestions and comments made by the reviewers, and will have 20 calendar days from the delivery of the evaluation to make the adjustments and send the corrected version to the Editor, accompanied by a letter detailing the adjustments made (Format verification of changes).

The Editorial Committee verifies the incorporation of the changes and, if it considers it appropriate, sends it back to the peer reviewer for his or her opinion. The final decision on the publication of the article will correspond to the editorial committee, after verifying the inclusion of the modifications requested by the author. In the case of not agreeing with the evaluations, the authors will make the pertinent clarifications and justifications and then send it back to the peer reviewers for their final opinion. The journal reserves the right to edit the texts, without changing the meaning of the article.

Approval and editing phase

When the article is accepted, the authors must sign the declaration of originality with the authorization of the rights of publication and reproduction of the same and the inclusion in databases, web pages, or electronic pages, national or international (Format).  The content of the texts, tables, figures and images included in the material to be published are the sole responsibility of the authors. Likewise, the article is the responsibility of its authors and does not necessarily reflect the thinking of the Editorial Board or the publishing Institution.

Layout and final editing phase

The Editor, together with the design team, carries out the layout of the articles, sharing the final version for prior review by the authors and for final publication on the OJS platform.
